It appeared in Russia during the XI – XIIth century. That year, the allied forces of the Russian princes came to the wall of the Big Novgorod. His inhabitants begged the Gentleman not to be left. El?as of Novgorod heard a voice that ordered them to extract the icon of the church of the Transfiguration on the street Ilina, and to put it on the walls. The enemy threw arrows in the procession, and one of them perforated the face of the icon; tears fell down of her eyes, and the icon turned his face towards the city. After this Sign, an inexpressible terror fell down on the enemy, they begun to be struck between them, and the community without fear, entered in the battle and obtained the victory.
