The icons are very ancient and extremely fragile works of art, when we buy them, all the pieces are examined by our expert in Byzantine Art Jelena Savkina. Some of the icons need small interventions, owed mostly to the loss of the color and to the woodworm. Of other icons that come to us the stage is not adherent and some crossbar has disappeared, a bad conservation does that to the minor movement of the wooden table there puts itself in danger the integrity of the lucid one and of the painting.

The icons come sometimes with very thick layers of varnish given on the painting, in most cases they come to the restoration workshop with a dark brown color due to the layers of olifa given like protective varnish of the work, this one moves back with organic dissolvers; this lacquer of special of composition by means of vegetable oils had the property of getting dark, concealing the colors almost completely, some rusty nails also are withdrawn so that it does not destroy the wood that it surrounds.

On having restored some piece, we have found other icons identical with previous centuries. At the beginning of century the restorer was painting the lacking spaces or was leaving in the initial painting fragments of later paintings. At present the modern skill is already used for the restoration as there are the x-rays, the ultraviolet beams and the binocular microscopy.
