He was born in Nicomedia. His mother was a Christian. And she wanted that his son continued in the Christian faith but she died when he was a child. His father sent him to a pagan school. He studied medicine. The emperor Maximian (284-305), nominated him as a royal doctor. He had contacts with several Christians. One day a dead child was on the street who had been bitten by a snake; he began to pray to Christ, the child resuscitated and the snake died. He was baptized. The emperor tried to kill him often but he was always going out unharmed until he gave his life so that his executors were not murdered also.
