They were simple and humble men called by Jesus to leave everything and to follow him. They shared with Him his social life and his educations. They were witnesses of his miracles. They lived through the pain and the fear of the passion and Jesus’s death. They celebrated the Resurrection. They waited to the Holy Spirit and received it. They went out to preach to the whole world Jesus’s Word, the majority died martyred.
