Mary embraces her dead Son. In her motherly arms he almost seems to smile. He is the same Jesus of the Virgin of Tenderness, who abandons himself with full confidence to the loving heart of Mary. Behind them is the Cross from which Christ emerges and closes the composition with the inscription: “Don’t cry, Mother, when you see me in the tomb.” On the sides are Saint Michael the Archangel, The Archangel Gabriel, the Martyrs Andres Stateletes, Tatiana of Rome and Mary of Egypt.
