This icon is linked with the election of Michael Feodorovich Romanov to be the Tsar. The Council was summoned to choose him, and the emissaries were sent to the Ipatiev Monastery where Michael had sought refuge. They asked him to accept the throne. They brought with them the Icon of the Virgin of Vladimir and that of Feodorov. They asked his mother, Marta, to allow her son to be the chosen one; she rejected it at first, citing Michael’s youth; Upon hearing the words of her Archbishop, her icon fell before her and at this sign from her he accepted the fate of her son. Thus being the first tsar of the house of Romanovs.
