The Virgin of Korsun is related to the Greek prototype of Glikofilousa, that is, Tenderness, where the frame includes the faces of Mary and the Child with an exchange of kisses and displays of affection. The image is shaped up to the shoulders to exalt the emotional intensity of the looks and the loving bond between the Mother and the Son. The extreme humanization of the features made this icon (like that of the Virgin of the Milk) spread more easily in Italy, the Balkans and Russia.
